EL PROGRESSO FIELD STATION
El Progresso Field Station— Education for Living, Education for Life
“There are two kinds of education: education for living and education for life” Amma
“Field stations are places where we can read the book of life in the language in which it
was written.” — James Kirchner, U.C. Berkeley.
El Progresso Field Station (EPFS). EPFS is committed “to education for living and
education for life” through experiential learning and personal development focused on
sustainability: of individuals and communities in nature. While education for living is
essential for success in the material world, education for life equips one with the tools
and values needed to lead an ethical, empowering and socially beneficial life.
EPFS provides a living library and outdoor laboratory for students, teachers,
researchers, and the general public interested in personal mastery sustainable
community and economic development, and cultural exchange.
Our mission is to provide space for education, training and immersive cultural
exchange along with exposure to the essential principles for living well, with peace of
mind. Aligned with this mission, are our activities to address the needs of the
community of El Progresso and more broadly, societal needs.
We work closely with our local government as well as with individuals, private groups
and the public sector. In 2019 through a public-private partnership, EPFS donated
an acre of land to the Government of Belize as the site for the village’s first Pre–
Primary School. The ground-breaking ceremony in November 2019, promised
igniting unlimited potential for the village children.

2021 and we celebrated our first graduation class in June 2022. EPFS sponsor
competitions for village primary school students to propose innovative ways to protect
the environment. We provide and facilitate scholarships for teens who otherwise could
not attend high school and university.
EPFS hosts students and research groups from abroad and has welcomed groups from
Canada, China and the US interested in nature, sustainable development and cultural
exchange. Through partnership with Toucan Education ProgramsTM (TEP)
https://www.studyinbelize.com we participate in the study abroad market and host
the Sustainable Economic and Community Development Program that facilitates
the students in exploring the nexus of community development and sustainable
economic development. We look forward to hosting your group too!
EPFS offers instruction in goal setting, meditation, yoga, face yoga and other human
development skills for overnight and day guests, local and foreign guests. Together
with TEP facilitate education for life and living in Belize through programs
that expose school children and the broader community to skills and training for life
and living. In August 2022, together, we launched the workshop series Money
Smartz for BelizeTM that promotes financial literacy of individuals and small
entrepreneurs.
