Project Description

Calico Jack’s Group Plans: El Progresso Field Station— Creativity, Community and Conservation

Field stations are places where we can read the book of life in the language in which it was written.” — James Kirchner, U.C. Berkeley.

At CJV we host groups through El Progresso Field Station (EPFS). EPFS is committed to creativity in experiential learning and personal development
focused on sustainability: in community, in nature and in agriculture. EPFS provides a living library and outdoor laboratory for students, teachers, researchers, and the general public interested in sustainable and personal development. The overreaching objective is reflection upon and the exchange of views based on diverse experiences across cultures aimed at the empowerment of all participants. We sum up our perspective as follows: Where focus goes, energy goes. Our mission is to provide physical space for immersive cultural exchange and hands on training. CJV’s commitment via EPFS is also to help address the needs of the community of El Progresso and more broadly, societal needs through education and cultural exchange. We work closely with our national and local governments and in this regard, in 2019 donated an acre of land to the Government of Belize as the site for the village’s first Pre-Primary School. The ground-breaking ceremony in November 2019, promised igniting unlimited potential for the village children. CJV has also sponsored competitions for village primary school students to propose innovative ways to protect the environment. We have provided
scholarships for teens who otherwise could not attend high school. We also teach tools for managing stress and developing self-awareness to all those interested.

We have hosted student, teacher and “mindfulness” oriented groups from the US, Canada and China committed to cultural exchange, empowerment and personal development and we look forward to hosting your group too!

For those interested in medium- to long- term stays for between 8 and 20 guests, to engage in experiential learning and personal development, we offer special rates and arrangements for accommodations and meals. The minimum group size is 8 and the maximum is 20 guests. Accommodations are shared and rates depend on the size of the group, length of stay, occupancy per room and number of meals included. Occupancy is up to 3 guests per room. Please contact us for information.

Elio Lara (Valedevictorian) and Baneza Godoy (Salutatorian) of the class of 2016 at El Progresso Community Primary School, facilitated by EPFS, are awarded 4-year scholarships to St. Ignacius High School by Belize Bank Ltd.
